Flights booked, accommodation chosen, ski passes next on the list. But have you worked out how you will get from the airport to your resort—with everyone’s suitcases, ski bags and tired children in tow?

Your airport transfer deserves a little planning of its own. The right choice depends on your group size, equipment, arrival time and where you are staying. Here is what to check before you book, whether you are heading to Austria, France, Italy or Switzerland.

Compare the whole journey before choosing your airport

A cheaper flight does not always mean a cheaper ski holiday. Before booking, compare the flight and return transfer costs together, including any airline charges for ski equipment.

Look at arrival times too. A late flight may leave fewer onward public transport options, while an early flight home could mean leaving your accommodation well before breakfast.

If several airports serve your resort, get transfer quotes for each one. Compare the journey time alongside the cost: saving a little on flights may be less appealing if it adds several hours of travelling to a short ski break.

Should you book a private or shared ski transfer?

A private ski transfer reserves the vehicle for your party. You travel together, with collection arranged around your booking and no scheduled stops to collect or drop off unrelated passengers.

A shared transfer sells individual seats. It can be worth considering for solo travellers or couples, but check the timetable, possible waiting time and drop-off point. You may need to make the final part of the journey to your accommodation yourself.

For families and groups, compare the total cost of shared seats with a private vehicle. A per-person headline price can look attractive until you multiply it by everyone travelling.

Cheap-Taxis.com provides private transfers rather than shared ski shuttles, so your vehicle is reserved exclusively for your group.

Book enough space for your skis—not just your passengers

A vehicle with enough seats is not necessarily large enough for all your equipment. Seven passengers with seven suitcases and several ski bags need a different luggage arrangement from seven people travelling with small weekend bags.

Before choosing your vehicle, count:

  • Every passenger, including babies and children.
  • Suitcases and hand luggage.
  • Ski and snowboard bags.
  • Separate boot bags.
  • Pushchairs and any other bulky items.

Tell the transfer company about your equipment when booking. Some saloon options cannot carry skis, so do not assume the lowest advertised car fare is suitable for a ski holiday.

If you are hiring equipment in resort, mention that too. An accurate luggage list helps the company match your group to a suitable vehicle.

Check what the transfer price includes

Compare quotes for the same dates, passenger numbers, luggage and service type. A shared seat price and a private vehicle price are not directly comparable.

Check whether the quote includes ski carriage, child seats, airport parking and any applicable road or tunnel tolls. Confirm whether the price covers one journey or a return.

Payment arrangements matter as well. If a service uses an online booking fee plus a driver fare, include both when comparing prices. Check the currency, when each payment is due and which payment methods are accepted.

For example, our Turin and Innsbruck services offer an online booking fee followed by a euro fare paid to the driver. Always check the payment arrangement shown for your particular route rather than assuming every airport works the same way.

Know what happens if your flight is delayed

Ask whether the company monitors your flight and how it handles a late arrival. Flight monitoring and unlimited waiting are different things, so check the included waiting time and what happens if you exceed it.

Provide the correct flight number and keep the booking contact details accessible. If you are held up collecting ski bags or dealing with missing luggage, contact the transfer company as soon as you can.

Save your meeting instructions before travelling. Knowing where to find the driver is particularly useful when you arrive in an unfamiliar airport with several bags to collect.

Confirm child seats and your accommodation address

If you are travelling with children, request suitable seats during booking. Give their ages and any height or weight information the company needs, rather than leaving the arrangement until arrival.

Provide the full accommodation name and address, not just the resort. Similarly named chalets, separate apartment buildings and resort districts can make a vague address confusing.

Check what door-to-door means for your property. Pedestrian areas, restricted access or local conditions may require a nearby meeting or drop-off point. Ask your accommodation host if there is anything the driver needs to know.

Allow for winter conditions on the return journey

Published transfer times are estimates. Snowfall, traffic and busy changeover days can lengthen the journey, even when your driver and vehicle are prepared for winter travel.

For the return, give the transfer company your flight departure time and follow its advice on collection. Allow for your airline’s check-in and baggage deadlines, including the time needed to drop off ski equipment.

Avoid choosing a pickup time based only on the quickest journey shown on a map. A little extra time at the airport is preferable to spending the drive worrying about missing your flight.

Check changes and cancellation terms before paying

Ski holidays involve several separate bookings, and plans can change. Read the cancellation deadline and check how amendments to flight times, passenger numbers or accommodation are handled.

Keep the confirmation somewhere easy to find and review it when it arrives. It is much easier to correct the wrong travel date or an incomplete address before the day of departure.

Find a private transfer for your next ski holiday

Once you know your flight times, accommodation and luggage requirements, you can compare suitable vehicles and book with a clear understanding of the price.

Explore our Turin Airport transfers, Innsbruck Airport transfers and Geneva Airport transfers to find your resort and check the available options.

If you are unsure which vehicle will fit, contact Cheap-Taxis.com with your passenger and luggage details before booking. We can help you choose an option that suits your journey.
