KEFALONIA AIRPORT - YOUR QUICK GUIDE
As far as being an airport it's pretty good.
Clean - air-conditioned - friendly staff
Don't expect a big international airport as the airport is on the small side, but don't let that fool you, its very well organised.
Kefalonia airport originally opened in 1971 and has recently been updated to a better standard.
Check-in is a small area, can be very congested if more than three or four flights checking in.
Security was easy to get through, they were nice and pleasant. It's air-conditioned throughout.
In terms of shopping don't expect much, there are shops but they are limited - duty free is on the small side but stock the popular choices, sweets, gifts, wines and spirits etc.
There are only 2 bar/restaurants which serve basic snacks and meals while you wait for your flight home.
There are car hire desks, x5 in all.
There's a free phone charging station which is nice and also free WiFi, there's plenty of toilets dotted around the airport and they are clean.
Looking for cash at the airport? There are a number of ATMs are available. ATMs are operated Eurobank, Euronet and Piraeus. When using these machines fees may apply , so be sure to check your own bank’s fee schedule and your daily withdrawal limit if you are travelling internationally.
Best thing to do before travelling is notify your bank of your holiday plans. ATMs are located both Landside and airside (Departures and Arrivals).
Arrival into the airport was very easy, only two carousels to collect your luggage but because its only a small airport the arrival of the baggage from the aircraft was very quick, after we passed through customs most of the baggage was already on the baggage belt.
When all of your luggage has been collected its very easy to find your driver, they will be waiting for you at the exit doors in the arrivals area, they will be holding your name on a card with a welcoming smile.
Rating for Kefalonia airport, we would give it 4 - nice small airport, clean but with limited facilities.
